A few months ago, 'cisco' declared alternative changes to the 1841/2800/3800 routers. The mature routers have not entirely achieved end of sale, but the more recent routers (1941/2900/3900) offer big changes in wireless router certification.
Why is it different? Similar to a PIX or ASA, the new routers use certificate important factors and a worldwide picture to figure out the available functions. This new certification plan reveals a clear difference between the form of IOS set up and the function set set up. You can change them individually and they don't afect each other.
The certificate framework has been structured, as there are only 4 function places. None of the offers overlap. They are:
IP Base: The standard function set. It has assistance for the most frequent redirecting methods (RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), typical WAN technological innovation (MLPPP, MLFR), and customary LAN technological innovation (802.1q trunking).
Data: The Information certificate contributes assistance for MPLS, ATM, IS-IS, and non-IP L3 methods.
Voice: The UC (Unified Communciations) function set contributes assistance for speech connections, CallManager Show, and Oneness Show segments.
Security: The Protection function set contributes IPSec VPN abilities, SSL VPN abilities, and IOS firewall program functions.
Cisco allows you to choose better based on your program. You will always need to be involved with the amount of DRAM and Display storage set up to make sure that you can run the proper functions.
Also, check out the efficiency functions on the new routers of improved slots and processer speed. And, as an alternative, consider the low price of the mature 1841/2800/3800 sequence. A little thought can save some real dollars here.
